As they go back to school in August I've always slightly pitied the schoolchildren of Scotland as they never have a calendar month when they aren't at school. To me, August was that blissful month that had nothing school-related attached to it. happy

Me too. But as I was coming back from Sainsburys yesterday morning I thought 'August 21st... the last third of August. Now I would have felt the grim shadow of school beginning to fall over the bright sunshine of the remaining holiday.'

That's true. Later August did certainly have a feeling of "back to school" about it. I remember once being at the end of a holiday in Cornwall and realising that I'd be sitting at a school desk in just three days time. That wasn't great.

Ooh, I've had that realisation sad yes

So much so that I successfully lobbied my parents to schedule future holidays so that we got a week at home before going back to school.
