Sorry to say that it's an album that embodies the expression 'flatters to deceive' to the nth degree.

I have it on vinyl and the opening track (and especially the intro) is so seductively, languidly, gloriously, groovily funky it makes one forget about the general mediocrity of the rest.

I mean, it's never offensively bad, but unhappily the regally sumptuous production bogs down songs that might've benefited from something more sparse.

Ultimately, a lot of these Motown signature act albums of the mid-to-late '70s seemed to be mere vehicles for one or two tilts at a hit single.

It's the musical equivalent of Bond in Spaaaace (i.e. 007 aping Star Wars' success).

Motown were just a bit behind the times for bit - the above mentioned format for Motown acts worked a treat in the '60s, but by this time consumers and fans wanted more from a long player.
