That's my video.
I just made it.
It shows quite clearly how nice my one is.

Re: Audio [strike]fool[/strike] phile News thread
In other Audiophool news I bought one of these cheap because it had an intermittent fault, Alas even when it was working it failed the CAF. (Canary acceptance Factor), and I couldn't fix it, I mean just look at it
Back on eBay this weekend.

I've been refurbishing my beloved AKAI AM-A 201 amplifier.
Opened it and it was frightful inside - matted with dust.
Really, bl*nking matted.
On the cables and plastic coverings the kind of greasy, 'leggy' dust stalagmites you get on the around the vents of an oven extractor fan.
On the circuit boards, diodes, capacitors, fuses etc thick hoary dust like in Castle Draclia.
Really neglected.

I wish I'd taken a picture of it, but I got all carried away with a series of small paint brushes and the vacuum cleaner (with the n*zzle on).
I've left some of the filthy evidence though so you'll get a rough idea.

These pictures really don't do any justice to how filthy and dusty it was inside.
It demonstrates better the wonderful job I've been doing.

The AM-A201 amp is so wonderfully, quaintly basic.
It's the first bit of hi-fi equipment I ever bought with my own money.
I was probably about 16 or 17.
£59 from Richer Sounds on Kensington High Street.
I've had for well over 30 years.
I love it.
It's also apparently quite well regarded too.

After much digging I found out the P on the 4 pin DIN output was a 5V output to signal to the power amp to turn itself on, they never used that feature on the Power amplifiers so after a while they didn't even bother connecting the output pin.

First h'amplifier I bought was Rotel 312 from the Leeds Richer Sounds, about £40 quid or so, second hand obv. I'm trying to remember the terrible tuner I bought as the same time.

At the same time I also got a Sherwood turntable, cheap and cheerful, but it didn't damage my reckids and it sounded alright.
I upgraded to a Dual 505/II
Then a Thorens 160 II with an SME 3009 II arm
which I upgraded to a Mission 744 arm, not sure that was a good idea in retrospect...
Still got that, not doing anything at the moment.
Now got a Garrard 401 with a Origin Live Enterprise arm.
Well, that was fun. I'll mentioned my speakers next, as soon as you've all woken up

My first turntable was a JVC QL-A200.
Died years ago and then - I'm ashamed to admit - when I bought my first (and still only) CD player (see above picture) I just listened to CDs.
It was involved in the single most profound and weird supernatural experience of my life.

Was that a direct drive or belt turntable?
