Also, it cost £29.
At Richer Sounds on Kensington High Street.
The sad thing is that I had to save up over a period of some months to acquire each separate component.
1st - Amp
2nd - Turntable
3rd - Speakers
After about half a year I could listen to music in my bedroom on my own.

The speakers were, I think, low-end Technics.

That said the whole thing was exceptionally good and incredibly punchy.
The amp was 40w per channel and the speakers - despite being cheap - were something like 60w capacity.
Many a Carnival I'd have my bedroom windows open (it being a basement flat they were normally never EVER open) blasting music out and people would be pestering my Mum and I because they thought there was a party.
Didn't matter that I was playing The Residents or Focus or Poco.

So, yesterday I became the proud owner of a Beocord 1900 and an actual LP what's cover I designed.
The tape deck is really lovely.
It's in completely wonderful condition.

Re: Audio [strike]fool[/strike] phile News thread
Shouldn't the title of that LP have question mark at the end?

No.
When I was designing it I automatically put a question mark on the end and was told to remove it promptly.

I've just finished cleaning the interior of my amplifier.
I need to buy some compressed air from Poundland now.

Also, when you switch the volume and bass-treble sliding switches it's crackles quite badly.
On Thursday, after we'd come back from Brighton, my ex's partner - who's very technologically capable and knowledgable - told me that "scratchiness" like that is usually caused not by what I'd assumed (in my naive layman's terminology) to be a 'loose connection', but rather by a fatal carbon build-up that would mean that the only remedy would be replacing the faulty component.

In other Audiophool news I bought one of these cheap because it had an intermittent fault, Alas even when it was working it failed the CAF. (Canary acceptance Factor), and I couldn't fix it, I mean just look at it

I call mind 'the quad I liberated from Currys during a street fight in '83'.
