I know. I was surprised too. It wasn't priced, but I thought it was nice, so I said to the nearest guy 'I was just wondering how much this is because I'd like one like it, although I wouldn't be looking to buy one today'. When he told me, I thought he was joking, and then bought it immediately.
Just as well - while I was waiting for him to come back with the paperwork, this couple appeared and took a shine to it, before having their 'well, what do you think?' chat. I felt possessive enough to say 'sorry, I just bought it'. I think it counts as a very considerable bargain.

It'll be infested with worms I reckon.

Even if it was, for a tenner, I could afford to simply chuck it over the side (although it's much heavier than I thought it was). However, it's not - it's absolutely perfect. I might try some wisteria on it, for it to begin its great adventure in life as a possession of mine.

Absolutely perfect you say?
Worms are patient you know.
They're in there.
Under the veneer or lacquer or varnish.
Waiting.
Also: don't forget the £20 delivery charge.

And "it's much heavier than I thought it was"?
That's the worms.
Obviously one worm doesn't weigh very much, but 400,000+?

Well, they can be killed. I'm not especially squeamish about worms and insects, or environmentally friendly enough to balk at mass murder with whatever hideously cruel and polluting method a mad chemist has concocted.
Even with the delivery charge included, it's an over 90% discount on the original price.

What would the equivalent Heron mark-down be?

I just thought Heron was a running in-joke, but I looked it up a couple of weeks ago, and it is an actual supermarket chain.

In fairness, it is staffed exclusively by long-legged, long-necked, freshwater and coastal birds of the family Ardeidae.
Very hard to get any help or advice on pastries and cider and a conspicuous lack of sardines and pickled winkles in jars though.

More than 250 locations nationwide.
This poor man, Mike from Hull, has been banned from every single one of them. As has his partner, Samantha, and all their relatives.

And to think that Wendi is continuing to prop up this inhuman, monstrous corporate behemoth all the while.

Did the bargain bin speak to you? Or did you find these cauliflower cheeses there all by yourself?

Re: Tales from the Bargain bin
At the local Sainsbury's 'Local', when you come to the tills there's almost always a trolley or two full of stuff that the staff have cleared from the shelves that's at it's sell-by date and has been reduced - nay slashed - in price by about 3/4 or 4/5.
It's basically a mobile bargain bin that you don't have to seek out.
Mostly it's not stuff I'd eat (sandwiches, wraps, fresh mushrooms, slightly withered looking vegetables, stir fry kits, etc), but occasionally it's pretty good - lots of 'taste the difference' stuff - pizzas, burgers, lamb/beef mince, bags of posh salad and the like.
