There's a Sir John Cooper Clarke album where he says 'have you noticed they've all got the same tune?'

Toni trying to inject some dynamism into the vocals.

It is over.
It did what that kind of album did.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

It's probably GR8 fun in the back room of a pub, in 1971, on a Youtube playlist in Space Year 2022, errr. s'alright.

Re: Dave & Toni Arthur - Hearken to The Witches Rune (1970, probably)
Despite not being in any way bad, it was very dated.
Dated insofar that although they were sticking to the 'purer' folk tradition it wasn't as if there weren't others doing the same - and with more authentically stripped back and dreary results (Shirl' the Girl e.g.).
In many ways, folk like this is, IMO, a kind of scholarly, historical 'field recording' exercise - worthy and admirable in many respects - but, as with all human (all-too-human) endeavours - one that gets smothered by a smug, overweening, precious self-regard.
Like a dusty emeritus professor of antiquities ranting quietly in the corner of the only pub in Lerwick about the importance of preserving the artistic tradition of vernacular woodcuts detailing the miserable lives of the 16th Century moth-milking peoples of the barren Isle of Flann where only 11 moths lived and prospered.

Honestly, I don't know who I think I'm referring to.

Re: Dave & Toni Arthur - Hearken to The Witches Rune (1970, probably)
I did see a review of Led Zeppelin fourth self titled album IV where someone said that the cover showed the striking difference between the bucolic simplicity and happiness of the old times and the terrible, terrible modern day.
d*ckhed.
d*ckhed.

Re: Dave & Toni Arthur - Hearken to The Witches Rune (1970, probably)
I'm being flippant.
Of course, living in a tower block in 1970s Britain next to a quaintly 'retro' bombsite was doubtless preferable to being an 89 year old (actual age: 27) crofter in the Isle of Flann crushed by the burden of having to harvest a particularly twiggy crop of Sinsemilla in 1902 just so Jimmy Page could get off his t*ts and dance to the pipes of Pan next door to Robbie Williams.
