In regards to LA being the epicentre of street gang crisis at the time, it is a bit like they've styled themselves after the MC5 and the Stooges.

Like, RHCP want to be to LA as the MC5 were actually to Detroit - crazy white dudes that the black folks didn't bother cause they were seen as crazy.
