I decided not to have lamb sandwiches. Instead I had it rechauffee with peppery tomato sauce and mash.

I've just cooked and eaten a hearty pilaff of brown rice with black beans and tomato puree.

Also pinto beans. I think both may be connected to the upsetting lack of kidney beans on the shelves.

I made a sort of pilaff with fried peppers, almonds and that mild green pepper tabasco sauce, and brown rice.

It was OK, but I think peppers are a bit too watery for this application. However well I fry them the texture is always disappointing.

I think that, at some point, I may try to make crisps in my microwave.

Apparently, you just cut the potato into thin slices, put them in water for half an hour, dry them out on kitchen paper, brush cooking oil on them, put them in the microwave, and then take them out when they're done.

My gas cooker's on the brink of death and I can't afford a new one. Nor do I really have need of such a large cooking implement. So, I'm thinking of getting a toaster oven.

I am currently researching them.

I need one that can accommodate a 10" pizza, as that's what my local Heron sells.
