I never boil things. I always bring them to the brink of boiling and then turn the heat down low and put a lid on, so the trapped heat does the cooking and the pan never boils over.

These beans were getting their initial 10-minute 'vigorous' boiling, which you have to give kidney beans. If you don't they make you very sick.

It's anecdotes like that which make me wonder whether I should've argued against being banned from Home Economics in exchange for not being suspended. I had crushed laxatives into someone's Victoria sponge mix, resulting in nobody seeing her until the following week and rumours that her entire family couldn't risk leaving the house.
Well, she shouldn't have cast doubt on my mothers honour or said my brother would die of AIDS.

I was whisking 5 eggs to make scrambled eggs this morning, when a load of plastic tubs fell off the shelf above. One of them plopped into the egg mix!
I didn't care though, I took it out and carried on.

I bought three large packets of raspberries yesterday, and they've been in the freezer until this morning. I'm defrosting two packets in the fridge right now, so my mouth is watering in anticipation of a lunch on my terrace. I'll probably listen to some Gregorian chanting out there.
This evening we're going to be having corned beef hash, because I bought those two ingredients on a whim.

I've got a lamb leg steak going in the slow cooker, to be had with peas and potatoes. Old school mid-day meal.

Got any mint sauce for that?

I've had to come back inside. The man across the way who enjoys a naked w**k in the sun has appeared on his own terrace and I don't know where to look. It's not so bad if I'm reading a magazine because I can discreetly peer over the top of that.

I can't sit out there listening to choir music while that goes on metres away. He does have a very good physique I must admit, but unless I've got something to very visibly hold up and pretend to be engrossed in, I'm just basically sitting on a chair looking over at him. He obviously enjoys an audience, like a watched dish simmering away.

The slow cooker makes it so tender it isn't necessary. I mashed the potatoes up in the jus, they were scrumptious.

Those last two posts dovetail in a decidedly queasy manner.

Re: What's that on your cooker?
I'm making Standard Pasta Meal A, which is onions and tomato reduced, plus a protein ingredient, which today is one of the emergency tins of mackerel. Sort of a bouillabaisse theme.

(Standard Pasta Meal B is onions and mushrooms reduced, plus a protein ingredient - pine nuts, chick peas, quorn, pancetta etc)

Re: What's that on your cooker?
It was OK, but I think mackerel is a bad choice to have with tomato sauce. I might try it with recipe B next time.

I made a lamb and tomato thing with black-eyed beans. It was delicious, but it's given me rotten awful indigestion, like there's miniature lambs trampling my guts from the inside.
