Fast? Or Bulbus?
Re: Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – Trout Mask Replica (1969)
Beefheart had no concept of musicianship from a technical perspective.
He used to explain to his band members that he wanted a song to sound like a bat being dragged backwards through a puddle of oil.

The story behind the recording of this album is actually quite disturbing.
Reflects the music pretty accurately.

I'd always seen CB as a kind of eccentric, albeit manic, avuncular figure, but he was a lunatic and a tyrant and terrorised his band whilst they were all living in a shack in the Californian desert and taking copious amounts of acid.

Believe it or not, the 17-year-old drummer (John French) is a virtuoso drummer of legendary repute.
