Awesome guitar chord.

And then it suddenly all takes flight in a swirl of strings and vocals.

That is genuinely one of the greatest shifts of tone anyone's ever managed on a record.

And now we're all flying above the city.

I honestly don't think I've ever heard a record with better string arrangements.

And in comes the organ.

It is over.
That was every bit as good as I remembered, and even better, as even the lesser parts were fab.
There has never been and will never be a better album made, ever. Frankly, I think that album's existence is the thing that has most made my life worth living.
And the great thing is that everyone else on the forum joined in with the commentary, just like I've sat through weeks of Prog and Ambient dwibblings that did my head in.
So, now to look back at the thread and see what everyone else made of it.

Me and NteJars, and everyone else on the forum thinking about it, managed that one.

I know I nominated Jim O'Rourke but I'd like to make another suggestion.
Basically, I think there's a consensus round here that, despite their apparent greatness, none of us really like The Kinks all that much.
So, I put forward either Misfits or Schoolboys in Disgrace - two LPs I have on iTunes Apple Music but have virtually never ever listened to - so rarely in fact that I'd say I really don't know them at all.
My feeling is that it should be Misfits.

I've never really heard anything other than a 60s greatest hits album*, I've always meant to try out their 70s stuff, but never got around to it.
Or in other words, bring it on b*tch!
* well this thing:
Which I've only just found out is 2 discs of 'Spotlight On The Kinks' and the 1970 album 'Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround, Part One.' which does explain why it's got 2 identical versions of Ape man on it.

I have heard Something Else by the Kinks and Village Green Preservation Society. I didn't like either of them. The first one sounded like them trying to do Revolver and the second sounded like them trying to do Sgt Pepper and failing on both occasions.

I think that's very unfair an overview.
Because...
I'll say later.

I'm here, but a little tearful and discombobulated.
Wanting to listen to sad, wistful music instead.

It had better be better than their other albums that I've heard.
