Re: Bob 'The Bob' Dylan - Blood on the Tracks (1975)
Right, I've already done it cuz I'm out at 7:30, but don't worry, I'll spoiler it!
- Spoiler:
I’m in!
I’ve always loved the maroon colour of the inner sleeve.
Tangled up in Blue.
Actually, I’ve just noticed, no lyrics on the sleeve. Sounds much more phater than that John Wenseldale thingy. Wonder what this song is on about?
Has any songwriter been more diminished (VII, lol) by the hacks analysing their songs?
Harmonica.
Muted Fudley Fumpt ending!
Track 2 Simple twist ‘o fate
Quieter. Harmonica.
Actually his Harmonica playing seemed to have, err.. well, he’s playing a different tune to his other one.
This is harmlessly nice.
You’re a Big Girl Now.
Sorry got a bit distracted by https://www.100percentelectronica.com/collections/negative-gemini/products/elon-grimes-shirt
Idiot Wind.
I think I prefer the live version, hang on,
https://youtu.be/q0o_0b5abwA?t=2489
He doesn’t blow the joke of the ‘I’ve always been Lucky’ line on that one.
I’ve always hated that keyboard sound. Sorry, but I have. :dealwithit: And it seems a bit anaemic compared to the live version.
Is that the same performance that’s on the despised A Hard Rain LP?
You’re gonna make Me Lonesome
Harmonica
Er…
End of side one!
I’ve also got the melody of Idiot Wind in my head. That was, expected…
Onto Side B!
Meet Me in the Morning.
12 bar stuff.
Clichés.
Rooster Crowing.
Sounds like a middle aged j*wish man covering Muddy Waters. No doubt according to Dylanolgists I’m missing the brilliant satire of Blues Clichés.Already satirised by Muddy Waters a decade or 2 ago.
Lily, Rosemary and The Jack Of Hearts.
Looking like the Jack of Hearts.
Makes a change from looking like the 5 of Spades.
:bananastrum:
I’ve got nothing to say about this one, sorry.
Is Blood on The Tracks a drug reference? I always thought it was rail tracks or something, or car tracks? But I’ve been over thinking it.
“Bob Dylan” wrote:
I made was Blood on the Tracks. Everybody agrees that was pretty different, and what's different about it is there's a code in the lyrics, and also there's no sense of time
No sense of time… I’m getting that with this song too…
Oh, it’s over!
If You See Her Say Wotcha!
This Sounds like Bruce Springsteen A talented Bruce Springsteen, but…
Can’t listen to this now, wish I’d never mentioned ‘The Boss’ I mean, it’s not like it’s Bob’s fault.
Shelter From the Storm
Second to last one!
:bananastrum:
I think I prefer the over cooked live version, again.
Buckets Of Rain
Last one!
Good guitar playing on this one, wonder who it is? Reminds me of someone. Well, someone who probably ripped this off. Richard Thompson? No, err.. It’s quite nice though.
Well, it’s over. Wasn’t overproduced to lifelessness as I remember. Must have been re-recorded since the last time I heard it, and all recordings of it have replaced without anyone noticing. Either that or I forgot what it sounded like, or may tastes had changed in 20 years. I’ll let you draw your own collusions over that one.
Laters!

I actually prefer the live versions of Idiot Wind, You're a Big Girl Now and Shelter From the Storm off of Hard Rain.

The only thing I like on Hard Rain is I Threw It All Away.

His musicians sound a bit more interested than they did on that other album.

Love this. It reminds me of the days of when I too headed out for the East Coast, and Lord knows I paid some dues, gettin' through.

This came out in 1975.
I always thought it was from the 1960s.

'We'll meet again some day on the avenue.' I used to think of this as I walked up The Avenue to the off-licence every night, and back down it again with cans of Skol.
