My problem with female vocals on folk songs is they're often employed in a lazily breathy, s*xy manner to allure the unwitting male unsure of what record he should buy at HMV.
e.g. a sallow, spotty herbert is more likely to buy the record if a sylphlike waif with a voice like a dandelion clock is singing rather than a firm-voiced, nasal Dave Mattocks!
