Re: Cars of distinction
Beamers only got their awful reputation in the '80s really.
Same with Porches (although they developed a bad rep in the '70s).
Old BMWs are lovely.
Some of the teeny little ones from the '60s are positively Fiat 500-cute.
The BMW 2002
The BMW 1500
And their grumpy-looking older sibling...

Hmm. Whenever it kicked in, it's most definitely there now. Drug dealers and middle aged men in middle management, both equally likely to tailgate aggressively.

Parking related tip for all - drop it off at a conveniently chosen garage for a 'check', forget to leave the keys, return after a leisurely time, say you've changed your mind about the once over if anyone comes out to ask, and drive off.

Re: Cars of distinction
The distinctive mint green roof of a Portuguese taxi, invariably a Mercedes - a vehicle, in a special shade, that occupies an almost mystical place of contented happiness in my mind. I can almost feel the heat of the seats, and anticipate what sort of dinner I'm in the mood for.
Coincidentally, the make and model of my own car.

Re: Cars of distinction
When I was a child the police panda cars in my area were equally intimidating Allegros and then Maestros, I guess the successors to the lovely Morris Minor. I think the Allegros were that same pale blue colour.
A friend of my mum's had a Morris Minor in a similar duck egg blue and I remember going for a ride in it. But to un-patriotic me, I always thought the Morris Minor was inferior to the VW Beetle.

Re: Cars of distinction
My grandad had a Morris Minor with semaphore indicators right up till the 90s, I rode in it many times.

Re: Cars of distinction
I think those pictures were taken somewhere near here
https://www.google.com/maps/place/The+Aviator/@53.3416973,-2.1619044,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x487a4d2f335446e7:0x582701554c468962!8m2!3d53.3416973!4d-2.1597157
Frustratingly though, the pub putatively in the picture doesn't seem to have been built yet when Google visited the site with their surveillance vehicle

Some of my ancestors were from around that way - though when it was a humble rural mining area and not Alderley Edge sh*tball overspill.

Re: Cars of distinction
The new ORA Ballet Cat - ie. a Chinese rip off a VW Beetle.
It boasts some thoughtful, if rather sexist, technology:
* The “Warm Man Mode” is specifically designed for women to use during menstruation.....The automaker says that during a period, women can feel cold and then “panic”. So with a single touch, the driver can put the car in Warm Man Mode. That feature basically turns up the climate control to “warm the body and mind.”
* A ‘secret space’ for women. Open the magic space, and there is an exclusive makeup box inside.”
“When you look up, the intimate LED super-sized makeup mirror is in front of you, and the light source gear specially designed for oriental women illuminates the skin, and the makeup effect is more perfect.”
* ORA has fitted the Ballet Cat with a selfie camera that can directly upload your pictures and videos on social media sites.
