Beach Boys or Beach Bores?
Re: The Beach Boys - Holland (1973)
I've been known as serious caner of booze and various substances over the years, but really, how much stuff did Brian do in the late '60s?

It is over.
I feel that is the best option for it.

I shall give the album 3 stars, as I don't know what else to give it.

The Mount Vernon EP is both profoundly weird and completely rubbish.
It is a minor epic of self-indulgent, half-baked, half-*rsed drivel.
None of it makes any sense and it is embarrassing to boot.
However, it is by Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys so therefore it is a veritable rough diamond of the purest cultural ore.
The album Holland on the other hand is another sporadically wonderful curate's egg.
It is however - all things taken into account - a Beach Boys album and, I'm afraid to say that, once you get the bug...

I don't really like the Beach Boys. I think it's the harmonies that does it for me. This one kept them under control, and was actually pretty good, if a little dull, when people who weren't the Beach Boys where writing the songs. And playing them.

The second one I think.
It was very rare and out of print for a long time, but got reissued in the '00s some time I think.
Like certain bands, anything connected with the BBs, generates interest amongst the slavish devotees.
Of which I would never say I was.
