As for Madness, I'd rather the first, less schticky album.

When I was a kid - I was the perfect age during their rise, plateau and fall (9-14 years old) - I loved them.

I bought Baggy Trousers, Driving In My Car, House of Fun on 7" from Woolworths on Portobello Road and listened to them to death.

I always thought they were one of my favourite bands, but then...

I grew out of them.

Grew out of 'It'.

Infantile drivel accompanied by a ska, skinhead sound done so much better by other artists.

Then, in the '90s, there was this CD compilation album renaissance that reignited the ageing wankpot nostalgist's fervour at barbecues and parties (see also: 10cc, Neil Diamond, etc) and it was then that I realised that I hated Madness.

Hated all those songs I once loved.

Then, once, I was in The French House in Soho and Suggs barged into me and spilled my drink and walked off without apologising and that was it - THE END.

Hatred has ruled supreme ever since.

Yes, I think One Step Beyond is the best fit for this forum. Be warned though, it is another audio madeleine, taking me back to June 1991.

In my album provenance thread there was talk of doing Infected by The The at some point.
