Madcap or dunce cap?
Re: Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs (1970)
These three tracks are a kind of shambolic medley.

Re: Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs (1970)
He was struggling to hold on during this session.
You feel me
Away far too empty, oh so alone
I want to go home
Oh find me inside of a nocturne, the blonde
How I love you to be by my side
They wail the crowd on her side
She straggled the bridge by the water
She misses her crawl barley grew
Heady aside in a dell
Inside an eye be the lonely one, my bride
How I leave on the waddling wheel they fail
A gasp shringing, a bad bell's ringing
The angel, the daughter
You feel me
Away far too empty, oh so alone
I want to come home
Oh find me inside of a nocturne, the blonde
How I love you to be by my side
They wail the crowd on her side
She straggled the bridge by the water
You feel me
Away far too empty, oh so alone
I want to go home

Tragi-comic moment.

Puddletown Tom was the underground.

More lucid, focussed final track.
Very bleakly sad lyrics though.

Alone and unreal

Re: Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs (1970)
It is over.
That was all a bit of a waste of time. It just felt like a bunch of unfinished demos he was still trying to complete at the time of recording.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

It's a very troubling listen that.
More so to me personally with every passing year.
It's lauded very much by very many and it is extraordinary in its own unique way, but the disassociation, alienation and fear contained in the garbled, psychotic lyrics are profoundly disturbing to me.

Re: Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs (1970)
Still, it's an essential album.
More highly regarded that Barrett, but IMO not as good.
Barrett has a faint sense of order and discipline about it whereas The Madcap Laughs is a motley assemblage of barely complete studio takes and a handful of vibrantly realised tracks with a proper band and production.
A kind of darkly strange time capsule I guess.
