Re: Tina Turner - Private Dancer (1984)
It's more Heaven 17 than David Bowie.

It's quite weird on Diamond Dogs.

She's not got a GR8 voice, it's a bit lacking power.

Re: Tina Turner - Private Dancer (1984)
It is over.
It was an album that did the job it was intended to do. I would say that it peaked in the middle.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Which I shall round up to 4, as 3 seems too few.The Call of the Wendigo wrote:I shall give it 3.5 stars.

What nonsense. She had a powerful voice if nothing else. Absolutely everyone but a Camden Town contrarian can discern that.

Re: Tina Turner - Private Dancer (1984)
Well, I enjoyed that. It's not a Tina album I go to often these days as I prefer others, but it's nice to hear it with slightly different, critical ears. I still find the extended versions of those aforementioned songs too long and one or two of the songs are a bit on the generic side, but it's still an adorable album overall, with one of my favourite album covers.

It's like as if Isaac Hayes had barged his way into a Ziggy Stardust session with an intent to supply (material for Young Americans)...

Re: Tina Turner - Private Dancer (1984)
The only kind of person who could say Tina Turner didn’t have a powerful voice is the kind of person who used to drink in The Good Mixer.
I remember being in there after moving back to the UK, and saying to a girl I’d been speaking to ‘do you know where I can get any weed around here?’. She drew herself up to her full 5ft5 (bear in mind I’m 6ft3 in heels) and snootily informed me ‘I don’t smoke drugs’.
I said to her ‘oh, you look like you do’.
