I think Toyota Island, aka junction 4 of the A50, should be declared the official backup spiritual centre of the NHOTW.

There's a nice little marina with holiday lodges and craft shops right next to Toyota Island.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
Served by the Trent & Mersey Canal I see. Which by a strange coincidence I identified the other day as the canal you drive over on the M6 just south of Sandbach services.
There's always a canal lurking somewhere in the background once you get north of Corley.

The view from the marina in the opposite direction.

In what possible sense is that a marina? It might beat Andorra in the maritime stakes, but only just.

I drove under Toyota Island earlier - and over Junction 10 of the M6, which is still like a building site.
I saw the cooling towers in the image above, but not the marina.

I guess it's a canal marina, which aren't huge things. This small marina isn't a million miles away from my home area - it's basically just a dead end branch of the canal network, resulting in a car park for barges and small boats.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
If you look at it in 3D mode, you get a better idea of its size. There must be at least 150 boats moored there.
Buttersville 32 miles
Wendifield 36 miles
Siberia* 40 miles
Zone of the Nightjars 110 miles
Zone of the CosmicTanyas 110 miles
Butters' mystery North Yorkshire destination 110 miles
Fanford 120 miles
Zarnichester 120 miles
Paisley 240 miles Maybe moving to Scotland isn't such a good idea after all
(* based on where I guess that StevieMidriff lives)

The pylon wires directly overhead really add to the vibe. I bet it's a popular dogging location.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
If I'm 110, then the Zone of the CosmicTanya is probably about 111/112 miles.
I'm sure the Countess will amend things in due course.
Also, we don't know where Schlurp resides.
Possibly somewhere in the North Sea?
Or where the Exxon Valdez went down?
Or Bhopal?

I think he lived on Three Mile Island before moving to Pripyat.

Is Derby not very nice? The only thing I know about Derby is that it's home to the very handsome and endearingly charming Bassit Siddiqui from Gogglebox, which would be reason enough to go on holiday there if he wasn't apparently happily married.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I admit I've never been into Derby city centre, having only ever been past on the surrounding highways and byways. The bits I see look nice enough, but it's not exactly known as being a holiday destination. Parts of wider Derbyshire, including Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton and Chatsworth might be considered more holiday-like, though I'd consider them more as day trip type places!

I'm sorry. But I didn't want to bracket you and Nightie together in an oppressive way.
Also I wasn't sure how to capitalise your username

I could probably walk to CT's in about 45 minutes.
Or less.
Or less.
