Could be Jesus. Could be Churchill. Could be Britain. No one knows.

I believe those are the principal requites for a song being any good.

For Wendi. yes

It is over.

It's an album that always gets overshadowed by Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America but it stands up perfectly well in its own right and Fool's Overture has to be the greatest thing they ever recorded.

Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it. Excited

Well, that started off well but fell apart somewhat thematically and musically.

By the end it was tilting at windmills big style, but, at the core of the ambition and pomp and circumstance, there weren't seemingly any songs.

Still, the first few tracks were good.

The second was ace.

You can really see, beneath the slightly fey English exterior that the key players were very much at odds with one another.

Personally speaking, I don't think they ever really resolved it.

Sure they achieved massive success (especially in the States), but it ultimately seems like it was either one or t'other in charge...

Also, thematically, what the hell was going on with that last song?

A real mess of the opaque and the crystal clear conceptually.

Leave that stuff to The Floyd, chaps. pet

Let's see if we can make sense of the lyrics to Fool's Overture. Excited

History recalls,
How great the fall can be.
While everybody's sleeping
The boat's put out to sea.

Borne on the wings of time.
It seems the answers
Were so easy to find.

Too late, the prophets cry.
The island's sinking,
Let's take to the sky.

Called the man a fool.
Stripped him of his pride.
Everyone was laughing
Up until the day he died.

Ooh though the wound went deep,
Still he's calling us out of our sleep.

My friends, we're not alone.
He waits in silence to lead us all home.

So you tell me that you find it hard to grow.
Well I know, I know, I know.
And you tell me that you've many seeds to sow.
Well I know, I know, I know.

Dreamer...

Can you hear what I'm saying?
Can you see the parts that I'm playing?
Holy Man, Rocker Man, Come on Queenie.
Joker Man, Spider Man, Blue Eyed Meanie.

So you found your solution.
What would be your last contribution?
Live it up and rip it up and why so lazy?
Give it out and dish it out and let's go crazy, yeah.
