As you can see, I've set things up so the Latest Topics widget is visible in the left-hand sidebar, meaning you can always see at a glance just what new magic has been posted on the forum. Do you feel this is a good thing or a bad thing?

At the moment, it's on the left but I could move it to the right if that might be less intrusive.

It does save me keeping going back to the main menu.

On the other hand it does look a bit odd.

We should try it on the right-hand side before getting rid of it.

I have now moved it to the right sidebar. Do you all prefer it that way? Or would you all rather get rid of it altogether?

I think it's better on the right, a bit like a list of articles on a blog.

I don't hate it as such, but I'm finding it a bit redundant as it doesn't show which threads have been read - and it doesn't jump to the first unread thread when you click on a thread title.

I have to admit that I don't tend to use it. I just click on the, "View New Posts," link at the top of the page. Therefore, I'd be perfectly happy to remove it.

Does anybody else use it?

I've been using "View new posts" which has been working nicely for me today, although is that the one that resets at midnight?

I'm a little bit unhappy. I briefly logged in about an hour ago, and as I hadn't been on for hours there were quite a few unread threads marked. But I only looked at a couple initially, knowing I'd be returning a while later to look at more.

I just came back and all of those threads are now unmarked - even within their respective subforums - so I'll have to trawl through them manually! One of the great features of the old forum was how unread threads would stay marked for literally years, and one click on the little symbol would take you straight to the first unread post in that thread.

But that's what the Latest Topics widget is for. You take a look at it and see at a glance which threads have been posted in since a particular time of day. bawl

Anyrodeup, to find unread posts, all you have to do is scroll down the main page. Any subforums that contain unread posts have a red circle to the left of them, with a big tick inside it.

Then, when you open that subforum, any threads with unread posts in them also have a red circle containing a tick, to the left of them.

To go to the first unread post in that thread, click the little orange square to the left of the thread title and that should take you to the first unread post.

By this means, finding all unread posts on the forum literally takes mere seconds to achieve.

I have implemented a new system of icons on the home page, so that we may recognise at a glance whether there are new posts on a subforum or not.
