Re: Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975)
It is over.
They were putting a lot of effort into it but there didn't seem to be any actual songs and its relentless hard work ultimately made it feel the same as listening to a White Stripes album.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Good lord, so he was! Wonder why he isn't a Baggy?
Other than the obvious.

*cough* 3/4 of the album to do tomorrow. Lucky there's no poll then.

Re: Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975)
I think that this album is gr8 and is not helped by being wantonly carved up into vegan bite-sizes.
I agree that a lot of this stuff will seem gratuitous and overly blues-rockingly indulgent (with a definitely overbearing and aggressive production that's not really been quite replicated since), but as a whole it's the band's Physical Graffiti.

Neiver should there be.
Leave to the end.
Anyway, the proper, immersive listening experience has already been spoilt for good/bad.

Re: Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975)
Don't forget also that I'm not that much of a fan of Led Zeppelin.
In fact, I think that LZ I is boring after the first song.
II is quite consistent and III dazzles and shines until it gets to Side B and falls apart.
IV (Symbol) is quite solid, but that solidity is its downfall, becoming musically and production-wise constipated.
The last two are thunderously over the top and hard and, although there's a kind-of respect engendered from a decade-or-so's serious hard rocking, the songs just aren't there.
Oh, and BTW, Houses of the Holy?
We did that, remember?
It's (IMO) the year you can usually pin your hopes on an artiste of the late-'60s-early-to-mid-'70s era to've reached their apogee, but LZ bucked that trend.
Cos, remember (??), it was a load of f*****g s***t.
A couple of songs apart that is.
But still, a desperate effort.

I've always felt that this album and Exile On Main Street are like cousins.
