So I saw in the other thread, after I'd posted that

My printer is a Canon Pixma iP-1600.
It turns out it's the one printer there are no drivers available for online, which means I'm going to have to switch back to Windows when I need to print things.

Oh, you've got a Winprinter.
It's the manufacturers fault. And yours for buying it. Next year = Year of Linux on the desktop.

Re: The magnificent operating system thread
I've just tried the Slacko Puppy operating system on my netbook that hasn't worked for ten years, and it's actually working.

Trouble is I'm running it off a memory stick and you need a degree in computer science to actually install it to the hard drive.
And then you need another degree in computer science to get it to connect to the Internet.
I suspect tantrums and swearing are ahead of me.

For some reason, it had the touchpad tap control set to "Disable."

Why would anyone think that was a good idea?
If I hadn't had a mouse handy, I'd've got nowhere with it.

I tried the Chrome operating system earlier but that wouldn't work at all. I just got a blank screen and a low battery warning, even though the thing was plugged into the mains.

I am now trying Android on it.
It has frozen during set up.
Slacko Puppy seems to be the only operating system that doesn't make it freeze.
I suspect it may need a better RAM card.

I'm trying Android on my main laptop, seeing as my ancient netbook refuses to use it. It's unbelievably fast.

I have now switched back to normal. That was a genuinely eye-opening experiment I've never experienced computing that fast before. Even the Sheffield Star opened instantly - and that usuallyl takes hours.

I thought Android only worked with touch screens?
Or is your laptop a touch screen laptop?

That response seemed somewhat devoid of emotion.
Dare I say 'robotic'.
Like, like, an... android?
I sense that the automaton-replicant invasion of the N-HotW has begun...
