Well, from 5pm on is traditional.

IMO, 6pm is more sensible.

If you're with friends and it's a weekend or holiday then - as a group activity - after, say, 1pm?

Generally not before midday.

I broadly agree with the Nightjar Codification.

If I'm going for a family meal or something I'll get on the wine as soon as it's offered, midday basically, but otherwise 5-6pm is the earliest I'd start. I've got things to do during the day, I can't be staggering around drunk.

Though when - in those distant pre-plague days - I had to get up at 4am on Monday, I'd start the booze at 4pm because I'd be going to bed at eight.
