Cut down drastically, it would have made a middling EP.

Only three songs can justify being over ten minutes long; this one, Supertamp's Fool's Overture and Dire Straits' Telegraph Road. box

Very hard for me to accurately judge all of that.

It was ambitious.

I preferred the first part simply from a tunesy perspective but have to hand it to Macca for pushing the boat out for the second half.

The proverbial curate's egg, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I find that it's impossible to properly assess whether anything Macca writes is any good in light of his titanic and crushingly idiosyncratic milieu.

On reflection however - and as I type this in real time - it was a lot better and more consistent than loads of his '70s albums.

So...

They always rave about the brilliance of Chaos and Creation in the Backyard on there and it's the only Macca album I can't endure. It's so boring it hurts my soul to try and sit through it.

I must agree with them that if you took the best tracks off 3 consecutive albums you'd have albums that match the B*atles.

Although they usually go on to mention all the retrogressive tracks being the good ones, whereas I'd chuck them in the bin B sides.
