Re: Coronavirus :dontpanic:
Can't sleep. My will and wishes are up to date as ever, but I am sending an email copied in to every relative and close friend to say I must be cremated. All my other wishes are just requests but that is absolute. I have such a claustrophobic fear and disgust of burial that I can't sanction that for myself.
Seeing the news from NYC where they are talking about mass graves - if that happened in London I wouldn't be able to die peacefully. I'd be ultimately fine with being dropped off at a crematorium by a van in the middle of the night and plunged straight into the oven without ceremony.
Donald Trump is removing funds from the WHO. Is there a single area of life or an organisation that this 'leader' doesn't rather skillfully manage wash his hands of just in time?
Absolutely heartbreaking regarding the news trickling out about care homes, all over the world. I can't think of much worse about being locked out while your own much loved resident dies, potentially alone, inside a building that even an ambulance won't visit because there's no point.
The presumed news to come from camps around Syria, in sub Saharan Africa, people ticking over on HIV medication, overcrowded prisons in our own country, it's all just absolutely hellish.
I don't know whether I've done my son a disservice in allowing him a free hand to look at anything he wants to (curriculum, extra curricular, etiquette and personal style aside). I can't imagine a worse age than starting your teens with all this going on. All that freedom beginning to open up, and vague sense of a world waiting for your arrival - all gone.

This is a family from Nebraska ... they were supposed to fly to Russia from New York on March 30, all this time they were with a group of stuck tourists at the hotel and hoped to get on today's flight SU103 at 23:00 ... but alas ... they , and the other 84 people again could not fly out, they were again resettled by numbers and families, brought hot food ... Elena and Alexander arrived at my apartment closer to midnight with a five-year-old child who went straight to the sofa from the doorway and instantly fell asleep . And the cat (fortunately, the house I live in is pet friendly), also exhausted by expectation, went to the bathroom to get acquainted with the toilet. And I took my most necessary things and went on for self-isolation to a suburb of New York ... PS And it is so great that Aunt Galya once popped a freezer in me with not various semi-finished products, the guys were very happy about this.

Yeah, but she's just smothered that child on the sofa with it's own bunny toy.

Re: Coronavirus :dontpanic:
I went to the chemist today. There was only 1 person queuing outside, and I only had to wait 5 minutes. But as usual one of my items wasn't ready. They said they'd deliver it for me tomorrow. But I'm sceptical.
I went on to Tescos where there was a much longer queue, I must have waited 10 minutes. And you weren't allowed to use the baskets, and there was a strict one-way system inside.
I wish I'd just gone to the Co-op now, except that they don't have organic smoked salmon like Tescos do. And you have to ask for the vodka in the Co-op rather than picking it up yourself. I feel self-conscious asking for a litre of vodka in front of everyone. Oh what a dilemma.

Without jinxing anything, this hasn't been my experience of homeschooling at all. If anything, I've discovered a talent I didn't know I had. A no nonsense school marm with a grand sweeping vision, ambitious and encouraging, but ever ready with a red biro and a raised eyebrow.
I do stay away from anything maths and science related, but that's fine because the school has its online thing.

I'd kick her out of it for wearing socks. They don't belong in a bed unless you're 85+. They don't look all that clean either.

Re: Coronavirus :dontpanic:
Well this is incredibly frightening but entirely predictable.
Tbf, I think if there ever was a time when people would be extremely understanding and for you to not feel self-concious about buying a litre of vodka now would be it!
The weather has been lovely, and as much as I'm thankful for my outdoor space, I'm really feeling it for the people that are stuck in flats or teeny terraces and have nowt especially if they really have no choice but to stay in.

So used to our news media being trash most of the time that seeing something like this manages to be simultaneously jarring and incredibly poignant and moving.

Excellent news. As a lifelong telephone addict myself, I couldn't be more pleased it's having a revival. I can spend several hours an evening on the telephone, as well as juggling one or two other calls on different phones, and using the Internet. The humble landline remains my favoured form of communication.
