Apparently, people using Smarty didn't get an an alert because they're using the 3 network and there was some kind of problem with it.

Mine didn't go off as I'd switched my emergency alerts to the off setting last week. The person whom I was with's phone did go off and as we'd completely forgotten about it there was a brief moment of concern (I thought it was his laptop doing something incredibly weird) before realising and remembering what was going on.

It is a horrible sound and is yet another example of something supposed to "help us" but could cause more panic, heart attacks and accidents than the emergency it's intended for. We've yet to hear how many car accidents were caused by the sudden, loud and very distracting alarm!

I was driving at 3pm and I watched carefully to see if any of the other motorists suddenly swerved about. They seemed unaffected.

I have opened the Smarty SIM envelope. And placed the SIM in slot 2 of my dual SIM phone.

And it works fine.

I was disappointed it didn't look like a smartie though.
