Re: The all-new all things driving thread
Did others experience Saharan dust on their cars yesterday morning? My black car was the worst I've ever seen it - and it must have briefly rained as the dust was sort of mottled like leopard print. The windows were almost un-see-thru-able!

No dust here.

Yes. It was so atmospheric, I loved it. I love the Sahara so I was thrilled to find it had come to me.

And to think I almost washed my car the day before too.

This is pretty much what my car looked like yesterday.
https://www.itv.com/news/granada/2023-09-07/why-were-cars-covered-in-a-layer-of-dust-this-morningPeople have been left scratching their heads after waking up to discover their cars covered in "dust" following overnight rain.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I have a jar of Sahara sand in my bedroom, with the now dried petals of a pink desert rose in it - the only thing that was in bloom for miles around when I saw it and picked it. I’m always pleased when the weather people announce that some dust or a plume of heat is coming directly to us from the region. It makes me feel connected to a happy place.

So it's all your fault then?

I’d like to think so. If I could extend this through October I’d be very happy.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
Apparently everyone else had the bright idea to wash their cars this morning.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
My car got thoroughly washed by the two thunderstorms I had to drive through on my way south yesterday.
I wish they'd finish those fl*pping roadworks at Darrington on the A1, having to go round via the M62/M18 just makes the journey extra tedious.

I took my car for its MOT today. It passed.
I was very proud of it so I bought it two new front tyres as a treat.
Also, while it was away, I sorted out all the cr*p I'd unloaded from it, and managed to eliminate a whole plastic crate full.

Breaking news, I thought I'd lost the service record book, but when I woke up this morning I realised it must be in the passenger footwell, underneath the stuff I put back in the car when I re-loaded it after the MOT.
And indeed it was.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I am once again in Darlington, northward bound.
I realised yesterday btw that the reason for the Sheffield signs on that stretch of the A1 is that there it's 'braided' or 'multiplexed' with the A57, which goes to Sheffield amongst other places.

Nice lane discipline, and incredible bladder discipline.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I’d be fine. We were taught bladder discipline at primary school by a tyrant called Mrs Young. ‘Go in your own time because you won’t be going during mine’ was her thing. Apart from anything else she thought asking for the toilet in front of people was common selfish behaviour. A couple of kids did lose control, but they learned. By the time we’d moved on from her, all 33 or so of us could’ve gone on military parade without trouble. Life lesson.
