Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I particularly liked the bit around 2:15 where you see the double 90 degree turns to get across the canal bridge, and having to slow down for the Black Cat roundabout.
I did junctions 14 to 75 myself on Saturday and Sunday.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of driving through one of Britain's very few cloverleaf junctions!

There's also one in Redditch, which I had to navigate to get to Stratford-upon-Avon a few weeks ago.
Those bends are quite ridiculous - I bet people regularly go flying off them.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I'd just left the hotel this morning when I heard a noise. A piece of metal, which I later learnt was a heat shield, had come loose from the bottom of the car and was tapping and scraping on the road.
But I discovered that if I drove faster than 40, the wind blew the sheet back so it lost contact with the road. I couldn't reverse though!
I felt like I was in Speed. I couldn't think what to do.
But luckily I drove past a Kwik Fit, which I could see had an empty ramp. 10 minutes later the problem was sorted. And they didn't charge me anything!
Kwik Fit, for all your automotive repair requirements.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I had to get me horn out yesterday, an Uber driver was doing a three point turn on a road they really shouldn't, which was fine, Zen School of motoring, but the way he just kept reversing when the bikes were passing on the other side of the road, :scary:

I’m quick on the horn - the London School of Motoring (later refined at the Athens School of Motoring, of where it’s often said traffic lights are merely a suggestion). For the scenario above, it would’ve been horn plus full exit from the car - and a knock on his window for a chat.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
Actually, I think I’ve only had to get fully out of the car twice this year, so far touchwood. Once about a month ago in a supermarket car park when someone reversed at speed into my path, and he was tirribly tirribly naice about it so I didn’t say he should probably stick to driving round his country estate, which I was tempted to.
Once in the spring when a halfwit tried to undertake me on a t junction, forcing me to stop to save both of our lives - she got it right in the neck when she told me to calm down. I could tell by the look of her she was on another planet so I did my best to bring her back to earth. I’m still angry about it now. It was breathtaking.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I went round a roundabout today that was part of the A9. That's the first time I've driven on any road beginning with 9.

Try the M90 next - that’s a lovely motorway. There’s a great looping climb on the way out of Perth where you can see all the scenery from very high up, then you pass the tragic romance of Loch Leven, and finally feel the excitement build as the traffic gets busier on a gentle but determined downwards slope when you approach the bridge, the grandly named ‘Admiralty’ junction, with all the buzz and beauty of Edinburgh waiting for you beyond.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
That really is a rather unusual "kink" for a motorway.

That’s the one. It’s great fun. Slightly hair raising when travelling north along it, but lovely views.
I like this place too. Just off the motorway. I’ve been twice… https://www.perthshireoffroad.co.uk/

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
If you put Google Maps onto Terrain view you can see why the loop is required.
I am currently less than 20 miles from the Edinburgh end of the M90. (It being cheaper to stay on this side of Scotland and drive to Glasgow next weekend, this week).

Oh yeah. You'd have perhaps expected them to instead route it to the east of

Why not enjoy a drive up to Perth and back down the other carriageway.
Another attraction is a small council estate in a place Hill of Beith, where I had the most fantastic few hours with a local I’d arranged to meet round the back of a parade of shops. Fearing I’d be murdered, I had a screwdriver up my sleeve but he turned out to be heartbreakingly handsome. He was just initially shy and worried I’d be a nutter who’d trash his parents house while they were on holiday, so wanted to check me out away from the premises first. The house was an incredible dump so I’m not sure why he was so protective of it, but there we are.

Here we are, behind the Lifestyle Express at Torbeith Gardens. That takes me back.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
That is a very Scottish scene.
I'm surprised there isn't a blue plaque commemorating the encounter.

There should be shouldn't there. You should nominate me. I believe that’s how it works, you can’t nominate yourself.
